PCI Staff

PCI’s expert staff is experienced in the fields of:

Among their combined academic credentials are advanced degrees in management, organizational development, psychology, and education, as well as practical work experience in the conduct of management development and assessment workshops.

PCI staff members have evaluated over 82,000 individuals for sales, management, and other positions. Research has shown that the use of professional observers increases the reliability and predictive validity of assessment center results.

David C. Purdy

President of PCI, Mr. Purdy joined the firm in 1977. He has extensive experience in personnel assessment and is responsible for the development of assessment center programs for major U.S. organizations as well as international companies. He is a Certified Management Consultant. Mr. Purdy received his B.A. from the College of William and Mary and his M.A. from the University of Richmond.



Joan E. Bendall

Vice President of PCI, Ms. Bendall has worked with the firm since 1987. She earned both her B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of Richmond. In addition to leading assessment centers in both the private and public sectors, she conducts pre-employment psychological testing and provides feedback conferences on assessment results.




Jane N. Rothrock



Vice President of PCI, Ms. Rothrock was a former pharmaceutical sales representative for Burroughs Wellcome Company. She spent 20 years in the healthcare industry and initially joined PCI’s staff as a role player in 1997. She currently manages all operations at PCI and also participates in role play activities and exercise development. Ms. Rothrock received a B. A. from Assumption College, Worcester, Massachusetts.



Mary M. Churchill

Director of Psychological Services, Ms. Churchill has worked with PCI since 1996. She also serves as a Staff Psychologist in the Counseling Center and an Adjunct Professor of Psychology at the University of Richmond. Her past experiences include working as a personnel specialist for a major national corporation and as manager of in-house counseling programs for employees of a large hospital center. Dr. Churchill received her B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Cincinnati. She is a licensed psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Grant Antaramian is a human resources consultant with experience in training and organizational development, staffing, human resources management, and labor relations. He has worked as vice president of human resources in higher education, publications, and the health care industry. Mr. Antaramian earned his B.S. from the College of William and Mary and his M.Ed. from Temple University. He joined PCI in 2007.

Barbara L. Baker spent over 15 years in the banking industry and served as Vice President in Human Resources, specializing in compensation analysis. She opened a private consulting practice in 1996 and provides consultation to a variety of organizations in compensation systems, performance appraisals, and coaching. Ms. Baker holds a B.A. degree from the University of Richmond. She has been conducting management assessment/development center programs for PCI since 2001.

Debra M. Casalino is an executive coach in private practice. She spent nine years in the financial services industry working in real estate administration, organization development, and human resources. She has been conducting management assessment/development center programs for PCI since 2001. Ms. Casalino holds a B.A. from the University of New Hampshire, a M.S from Columbia University, and a M.S. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. A certified leadership coach, she also holds a PHR designation from the Society of Human Resource Management.

Thomas S. Chalkley, Jr. originally joined PCI in 1981 as a staff consultant. During the course of his career, he has worked in sales, training, management consulting, and ultimately served as Vice President of Human Resources at a marketing and communications firm for 15 years. He received his B.A. from Randolph Macon College and his M.A. from the University of Richmond. He has been involved with assessment and development center activities for over 25 years.

Thomas M. Davidson is a human resources professional specializing in the areas of leadership development, executive performance, and organizational effectiveness. He has had extensive experience in manufacturing operations, human resource administration, communications, organizational effectiveness, and leadership consulting. Mr. Davidson has been conducting management assessment/development center programs for PCI since 2003. He earned his B.S from North Carolina State University, a M.B.A. from The University of Richmond, and a M.S. from The American University. He is also the author of "The 8 Greatest Mistakes New Managers Make: Surviving Your Transition to a Management Position."

Marion F. Garber’s 30-year professional career has incorporated assessment, facilitation, training, and consulting focused on change, leadership, and career management concerns. She has served as a manager of organizational development and training in industry, an executive and management coach and facilitator, and a college faculty member. Dr. Garber earned her Ph.D. from the Union Institute, Cincinnati, Ohio. She has been conducting management assessment/development center programs for PCI since 1998.

C. Michele Gottschalk joined PCI in 1988 and works as an observer and feedback provider in PCI’s management assessment/development center programs. In addition to providing evaluations on professional management skills, she also trains managers on career planning and development issues. Prior to joining PCI, Ms. Gottschalk was a human resources officer at a large regional bank. She holds a B.A. from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and a M.Ed. from the University of Virginia.

Larry J. Julian is a management and leadership consultant providing human resource development interventions designed to facilitate strategic and structural change in organizations. He has over 19 years of experience in corporate training, most recently as a senior organization and management development specialist. Mr. Julian has been conducting management assessment/development center programs for PCI since 1999. He earned his B.S. degree from East Tennessee State University and his M.A. from George Washington University.

Susan R. Knaysi joined PCI in 1987. She has been involved in a variety of activities at PCI including psychological testing, individual career planning, and management assessment/development center programs. Prior to joining PCI, Ms. Knaysi founded and directed a non-profit resource center for parents in the greater Richmond area. She earned her B.A. from Methodist College and her M.A. from the University of Richmond.

William H. Leedom has spent over 30 years in human resources serving as a Vice President of Human Resources with a retail chain, bank, insurance company, and an international not-for-profit organization. Mr. Leedom holds a B.A. and M.A. from the University of Delaware and certificate programs at Colorado University, the University of Richmond, and Virginia Commonwealth University. He also completed his coursework and exams in the Ph.D. program at the University of North Carolina. Mr. Leedom joined PCI in 2008.

Donna Llewellyn spent 19 years in secondary education and 6 years in Human Resources prior to joining PCI in 2000. She has presented programs at numerous regional and national education conferences. In her work at PCI, Ms. Llewellyn is involved in assessment and management development programs, role play activities, and training. She received a B.S. degree from Randolph Macon College.

John E. Mittell is a 25-year veteran of the U.S. Navy and a graduate of the Naval Post-Graduate School in Monterey, California. During his career, he worked as a flight instructor and was the commanding officer of an aircraft squadron. Later in his career, he served in the Pentagon, where he managed several programs for the Chief of Naval Operations. Mr. Mittell has been conducting management assessment/development center programs for PCI since 1996.

Conni G. Morse is an assistant professor with over 20 years of experience teaching marketing and public relations courses. She has directed strategic marketing efforts for companies and worked as a professional trainer, leading communication and management skills workshops. Ms. Morse has been conducting management assessment/development center programs for PCI since 1996 and also trains new assessors. She holds a B.A. in political science and a M.S. in marketing from The American University.

Adrienne A. Philips joined PCI in 1989, following a 19-year career in education. She conducts management training and development center programs and provides feedback conferences to participants. She has worked closely with companies in strengthening their career development programs. Ms. Philips earned her B.S. degree from the University of Texas at Austin and obtained her M.S. degree from the College of St. Rose.

Donald J. Pliszka spent most of his career in human resources within the pharmaceutical industry, specializing in employee compensation. He has been conducting management development center programs for PCI since 1998. He holds a B.S. degree from the University of Wisconsin.

Jenny M. Spears joined PCI in 1995 and has served as operations manager, assessor, and role player coordinator for PCI’s development center programs. She is responsible for the training and development of the role players and participates in the development of exercises. Ms. Spears holds a B.A. from the College of William and Mary and received her M.A. from The George Washington University.

Rory L. Sturm is a management consultant who works with companies in developing and implementing systems to assist them in setting and reaching goals. His management experience includes district and regional management positions. He has been conducting management assessment/development center programs for PCI since 1997. Mr. Sturm has a B.S. from the University of South Alabama and a M.B.A. from the Cranfield School of Business, Cranfield, England.

Jennifer Taratsas is a human resources consultant with experience in management assessment, management development, benefits, and executive compensation. She has worked in the financial services and retail industries. She earned her B.A. from the University of Minnesota and continued with graduate studies in industrial relations. Ms. Taratsas joined PCI in 2007.

Hattie D. Webb spent over 30 years in education and was Director of Personnel and Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources for Henrico County Public Schools in Virginia. She holds a B.S. from Hampton Institute, a M.A. from Columbia University, and an Ed.D. from the College of William and Mary. Dr. Webb has been conducting management assessment/development center programs for PCI since 1997.

David Winter is a human resources professional who has served as the top HR executive for service and manufacturing companies in both domestic and international settings. Dave has also been in line management, and has held management and staff roles in the legal, finance and accounting areas. Dave holds a BA in Psychology from the University of Virginia and an MBA from the University of Richmond. He is a member of the Richmond Human Resources Leadership Roundtable, WorkatWork, The World Affairs Council, and the Society for Human Resource Management, where he holds a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification.
