PCI offers individual assessments for organizations across various industries. Individual assessments allow for the evaluation of one person at a time, rather than a group of participants in an Assessment Center.
PCI tailors individual assessments to clients’ needs depending on the position under consideration. PCI prepares written evaluation reports for client organizations, detailing strengths and developmental needs of the person being assessed.
The individual assessment program involves 1-2 days of assessment activities, including:
- Management simulation exercises
- Cognitive ability appraisals
- Personality assessments
Management Simulation Exercises
Inbox Exercise
- The participant assumes the role of a manager who has just taken over a large operation and is confronted with an accumulation of correspondence, including letters, memos, and e-mail messages, all of which require a response. This 2½-hour exercise covers a broad range of management problems.
Coaching and Counseling Simulation
- In a new leadership role, the participant counsels a direct report who is experiencing difficulties in her new role. The participant is challenged with trying to effect some change in the subordinate’s behavior during a 30-minute interview session.
Presentation Exercise
- The participant is given a choice of topics to select from and then develops a presentation for delivery to a panel of senior leaders.
Cognitive Ability Appraisals
General Mental Ability
- This closely timed test measures general mental ability, the ability to learn, comprehend, solve problems, and adjust to changing situations. The test yields an overall score for general mental ability as well as scores for verbal skill and quantitative skill.
Critical Thinking Appraisal
- This untimed test measures the individual’s practical problem solving skill, including the ability to draw inferences based on sufficient data; recognize assumptions taken for granted in statements; reason by deduction to a conclusion that necessarily follows the statement; decide whether certain interpretations can be logically made; and determine whether arguments concerning a series of questions are strong or weak.
Management Knowledge
- This is an untimed, multiple-choice inventory involving a series of management scenarios requiring the participant to choose the most appropriate course of action. The overall score is an indication of the respondent’s understanding of basic management principles and practices.
Personality Assessments
Temperament Survey
- This multiple-choice survey identifies nonclinical characteristics associated with personality and temperament.
Personal History Record
- The participant completes a comprehensive form that surveys work history, educational background, and personal characteristics.
Background Interview
- A PCI staff consultant conducts a comprehensive background interview with the participant, exploring career accomplishments, future goals, strengths, developmental needs, and management style.
