P2PE — Point-to-Point Encryption

A PCI-listed Point-to-Point Encryption (P2PE) solution encrypts card data inside a validated point-of-interaction device and decrypts it only inside the solution provider's secure environment, so the merchant never handles clear-text account data.

What it means in practice

Only solutions on the PCI SSC list of validated P2PE Solutions qualify. Terminals that merely encrypt are not P2PE.
The merchant must implement every control in the P2PE Instruction Manual (PIM) supplied by the solution provider.
A qualifying deployment can make SAQ P2PE available, which is one of the shortest SAQs.
